Activities

Hot springs

Every week we visit one of the outdoor thermal pools in the Bansko area. These natural hot springs have several pools with different warm water temperatures and are rich in minerals. We rotate between the three most popular ones, each with its own setting. Facilities like dressing rooms, showers and toilets are available, and most locations have a restaurant.

Children are expected to be accompanied by a parent.

Horse riding

We will be riding in the mountains, surrounded by open nature and beautiful views. The rides are in small groups and follow the mountain trails. Riders are free on their horse, with guidance when needed. The standard ride is 50 minutes. For younger children, a 30-minute ride is available.

Rock Climbing

We will be climbing in the mountains near Bansko, on natural rock. It’s an active and physical experience, with different levels of challenge available. Everyone climbs at their own pace, and instructors are present for safety and support.

Ice Skating

We will be ice skating together as a group. Skates are provided and pinguins can be rented. It’s a fun and active activity for the whole family. You see everyone getting more confident quickly and enjoying themselves on the ice.

Rope Park

We will visit a rope park with different sections for different ages. It’s a fun and physical activity with challenges at various heights. Everyone moves through the course at their own level and pace. At the end, there’s a zipline that some may get to try.

ATV Adventure

We will head into the mountains for an off-road ATV ride. Two people ride together on one ATV. The route takes you over steep trails, through forest paths, mud, and sometimes shallow streams. It’s intense and exciting, and often loved even by those who didn’t expect to enjoy it. Instructors guide the group and provide support along the way.

We expect one parent per child to join. If there are more children than adults in a family, the extra children will need to ride with another parent or with one of the local instructors.

Guided Tour of Bansko’s Old Town

We will explore Bansko’s old town with a private guide, in a custom tour designed for our group. It’s a relaxed walk through the historic centre with stories, local details and little surprises for the kids along the way. The tour is adapted to the group and accessible for all ages.

Visit to the Rila Monastery

We will visit the Rila Monastery, one of the most iconic landmarks in Bulgaria. Surrounded by mountains, this historical site offers a peaceful setting and impressive architecture. It’s a quiet and calm visit, where families can walk around, take in the atmosphere and learn more about Bulgarian culture.

Volunteering at Bansko Street Dogs

Bansko Street Dogs is an organization that has been caring for street dogs in Bansko for years. They take dogs off the street, care for them and help them get adopted. They also support dogs still living outside by feeding, treating and neutering them. Worldschooling Bansko has been volunteering here for six years. We help with brushing, walking, cleaning, making kennels, and playing with the dogs to help them socialize. At the same time, we learn what it takes to care for them. It’s a favorite for many.

The dogs are all friendly, but they are still animals, and therefore we expect the parents to join the kids to this activity.

Things to be aware of:
– Activities are subject to change, due to weather, availability or group size.
– Activities are organised by local providers, in line with typical Bulgarian approaches to quality, maintenance and safety.
